Customizable mattresses are a great choice for sleepers, allowing us to find the right firmness option for our body types and sleeping styles. The Saatva Classic and Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe are both luxury hybrids offering three different firmness options, but which one is the best fit for you?
The Saatva Classic is our top pick in this year’s best mattress round up, praised for its all-round support and comfort. But if you’re a hot sleeper, the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is one of our top picks for preventing overheating at night. We’ve tested and reviewed both mattresses, so we’re comparing price, design, comfort, support and more.
At full price, both mattresses lie in a similar price bracket with a queen Saatva Classic retailing at $2,095, while the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is $2,265. But you’ll find frequent discounts with both brands, meaning you can generally pick up a mattress for less. Let’s delve deeper into the Saatva Classic vs Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe comparison to see which bed is the right pick for you…
Saatva Classic vs Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress: Price & Trial
- Regular Saatva sales take between 12 and 15% off the Saatva Classic
- Brooklyn Bedding has evergreen discounts, typically between 20 and 30%
- Saatva offer a 365-night trial, while you’ll only get 120 nights with the Brooklyn Bedding
Post Black Friday, the Saatva Classic isn’t currently discounted so, if you’re not in a rush to purchase, we would recommend waiting for one of the Saatva mattress sales that run regularly throughout the year. Expect to see between 12-15% off the Saatva Classic, with the largest discounts typically saved for major sales events or flash sales. Typically, a queen size is reduced to $1,795 (MSRP $2,095) but this will drop to $1,695 during major holidays.
In comparison, the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is never sold at full price. An evergreen mattress sale at Brooklyn Bedding means you’ll always get between 20-30% off full price. There’s currently 25% off all sizes with the code GIFT25, taking a queen down to $1,698.75 (MSRP $2,265) with the cooling Cloud Pillow top (more on that later). This isn’t the biggest discount we’ve seen, and the mattress is sometimes discounted by 30%, meaning you can pick up a queen for $1,585.50.
Extras wise, the Saatva blows the Brooklyn Bedding out of the water with a 365-night trial, lifetime warranty and free white glove delivery. You’ll get 120 nights with the Brooklyn Bedding, along with a 10-year warranty and free shipping to your door.
Saatva Classic vs Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress: Materials & Design
- Both mattresses are hybrids, but the Saatva Classic is an innerspring hybrid
- The Saatva Classic has five layers and two height choices
- The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe has six layers and is 13” high
The Saatva Classic and Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe both feature in our best hybrid mattress guide, but are designed quite differently under the covers. The Saatva Classic is the best luxury mattress you can buy, adding the luxury of a hotel-style mattress to your home.
The mattress starts with a 3” thick Euro pillow top that’s made from organic cotton. The pillow top also has Saatva’s patented Lumbar Zone Quilting, giving more support in the center third of the mattress. The cover is also treated with a botanical antimicrobial solution to inhibit mold, mildew and bacteria.
Underneath this is a high-density CertiPUR-US certified memory foam lumbar crown for pressure relief, followed by layer of zoned individually wrapped 14.5-gauge recycled steel coils sit on top of a support base made up of 13-gauge tempered steel support coils. This is all wrapped up in a foam encasement around the perimeter to stabilize the whole mattress.
At the top of the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is a GlacioTex smooth weave cooling cover, with the fabric being known for its abilities to keep sleepers cool and draw heat away from the body. Up next is the optional Cloud Pillow Top, with more cooling fibers and extra comfort, followed by a layer of CopperFlex foam.
This, as the name suggests, is infused with copper to boost temperature regulation and add antibacterial qualities. The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe comes in a choice of three firmness ratings (soft, medium and firm) and which one you choose means a slight difference in the next few layers.
We’re focusing on the medium firmness here, meaning you’ll get two inches of medium memory foam and an inch of gel swirl memory foam. As you might imagine, the soft mattress has softer foam, while the firm is firmer. Beneath this, you’ll find a layer of eight inch individually encased coils, with firmer coils around the edge for support. Finally, there’s a high-density foam base.
Saatva Classic vs Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe Mattress: Comfort & Support
- The Saatva Classic is available in three firmness options – plush soft, luxury firm and firm
- The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe also comes in three firmness ratings – soft, medium and firm
- Be warned – motion isolation on the Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is woeful
We tested the medium firmness versions of both these mattresses (known as luxury firm by Saatva), with the two beds offering quite different firmness feels. In our Saatva Classic mattress review, we rated the luxury firm at 7/10, with the mattress being one you sleep ‘on’ rather than sinking into.
You’ll get bounce and plenty of support from the coil layers, but the pillow top and added lumbar support provide plenty of cushioning at pressure points, as well as doing an exceptional job of keeping the spine aligned.
It’s a fantastic choice for those experiencing aches and pains although those with more serious back conditions might like to consider the more specialized Saatva RX. It’s one of the best mattresses for side sleepers, who might appreciate the plush soft version, while stomach sleepers should pick the firm version.
