Holy Rosita – A Heartwarming Tale
At the Torino Film Festival, ‘Holy Rosita’ was honored with the Best Film Award. The debut feature film by director Wannes Destoop was selected in the International Competition and received the top prize from the jury on Saturday evening. Lead actress Daphne Agten and the director were present in Turin to accept the award.
‘Holy Rosita’ narrates the touching story of Rosita, a cheerful woman with a strong desire for children, who is deemed irresponsible by those around her due to her limitations. When she unexpectedly becomes pregnant, Rosita decides to keep this news to herself. Daphne Agten portrays the title role, supported by stellar performances from Jos Geens, Cilou David, Mieke De Groote, Delfine Bafort, and Janne Desmet.
The film premiered earlier this year as the opening film at the Ostend Film Festival. It was released in theaters by Cinéart on February 14th. Wannes Destoop, known for the series ‘Albatros’ and the award-winning short film ‘Badpakje 46’ at Cannes in 2011, directed ‘Holy Rosita’. The screenplay was crafted by Wannes Destoop, Tom Dupont, and Janne Desmet.
Produced by Gilles Coulier, Gilles De Schryver, and Wouter Sap for De Wereldvrede, the film received support from the VAF/Film Fund of Flemish Minister of Culture Caroline Gennez and Screen Flanders, an economic fund under the purview of Flemish Minister of Economy Matthias Diependaele and Minister of Culture Caroline Gennez.
