Welcome to the Monthly Entertainment Round-up
Welcome back one and all to my little monthly round-up. Keeping with the spirit of the past month, I just want to say I’m incredibly thankful for all the amazing bloggers, content creators and more that are out there. With them also adding into my interests and things, it makes the world a lot more bearable of a place.
This month is particularly Youtube heavy just as an FYI. I noticed at least on my recent’s page that there was a pretty sharp decline in posts this month. It might be the season, it might be a real trend, whose to say? Either way I’m bringing you the best posts and more I can offer from this past month that I came across.
Anime
From Mechanical Anime Reviews, is a non-mecha related post, “Magical Girls For Hire and Magilumiere Magical Girls Inc.“. It’s great because it’s bringing attention to a lesser known series. I really encourage you guys to check it out and read, and then try and find a legitimate spot to watch!
There’s also “Discussion: Astro Boy, 1963 vs. 2003” from Cinema Anime. It’s a fun to read comparison of the oldest iteration of the franchise and newest. It’s really refreshing to read since I’ve only had a limited exposure to the 1963, but I did enjoy the 2003 version many years ago.
While this is another one off of Youtube, and technically over a year old, I still think it’s an awesome video. “The Mystery of Angelic Layer’s Dolls: A Merchandise Failure“, by youtuber MaryLoveMew is a great video talking about one of CLAMP’s lesser known titles Angelic Layer of course. Not to mention the really stunning dolls of course! Be sure to give it a watch!
Manga
First and foremost this is NOT sponsored BUT! eManga is currently having a 50% off sale on EVERYTHING in their store. If there’s anything you’ve been eyeing – I was aggressively staring down the Tezuka titles of course -, now’s the time to get them! Support manga officially, you have now until December 31st to cash in on this offer!
From blogger Bouquet of Languages is “Manga Review: Otaku Vampire’s Love Bite vol.1“. It’s a great little overview about this opening volume. I know this series has gotten me curious, so hopefully more of us will give it a read!
Off of youtube is “A Manga About Love and Consumerism” from youtuber LowercaseJai. It’s a great video talking about the cultural context of Okazaki Kyoko’s manga Pink. Well worth giving a watch before reading, or go ahead and read it first before watching the video.
From Colleen’s Manga Recs is “Tokyopop: When Ego Destroys a Company“, off of Youtube is another look at why TokyoPop failed in America, and why it’s rebrand is kinda odd in my opinion. Still it’s a great piece with a lot of great research, and if you aren’t aware of it!
JDramas and Films
Off of MDL is actually from last month (whoops!), from users Badass Bunny and Mon with “Japanese TV Series for Those Who Are in a Rush“. I’m not a fan of rushing through a drama or film in general BUT, I do want more folks to watch JDramas and this is a great guide.
Music
I really ought to re-name this section to F5VE’s latest press releases… one day I’ll go back to more even coverage lol. For now, we do have an interview with NTS live from when F5VE were in London. Be sure to give it a listen!
I couldn’t leave off without pushing a girl-group on your guys. ME:I has returned with their first digital single with “Tomorrow” so give it a listen. It officially drops on December 2nd JST!
Conclusion
Thank you for joining me on this journey through the latest in anime, manga, JDramas, films, and music. I hope you’ve discovered some new favorites and enjoyed the diverse range of content shared in this round-up.
